The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Kolkata held a Chinese artistic performance entitled “Splendid Chinese Singing and Dancing” at Kala Mandir Auditorium on 16 August 2016. Consul General Ma Zhanwu, Mr. Sugata Bose, MP from West Bengal, Mr. Atri Bhattacharya, Principal Secretary with Information and Cultural Affairs Department of West Bengal State Government, Consuls General of Russia, Germany and Thailand as well as over 1000 Indians from various walks of life watched the show.
Consul General Ma thanked the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Yunnan Province and Yunnan Chinese Culture Promotion Society for their efforts that had made the performance possible. He noted that the artistic troupe was made up of top performers who had won China Plum Performance Award and golden prizes in international and national competitions. He also said that Yunnan is very close to West Bengal geographically, and the Belt and Road Initiative, the BCIM Economic Corridor and K2K initiatives would serve to strengthen the ties between the two places.
Ni Hao! Calcutta set up the first ever Chinese exchange at The Heritage School, Kolkata on the 3rd of August, 2016. The exchange students taught the students of 3rd grade Chinese paper cutting and also some Mandarin. The school hopes to set up a regular exchange program (with Ni Hao!'s help) sending Indian students to China and bringing Chinese students to Kolkata.
